Deer and Wildlife Festival

Oct/09/2010 - Oct/09/2010
Location: Courthouse Square - Downtown Woodville

The long-standing tradition of hunting wild game for food is showcased in our “Wild Game Cook Off”.

The Woodville Deer and Wildlife Festival celebrates the cultural, culinary and artistic heritage of Woodville and Wilkinson County, Mississippi. Awarded “Best Special Event” by the Mississippi Main Street Association, the 2008 debut festival attracted a crowd of thousands to the historic Courthouse Square of Woodville.

Local artisans demonstrate wooden bowl and spoon carving, pine needle basket-making, quilting, and taxidermy.

Area musicians infuse the Festival air with blues, rock, and gospel music.
Local students read their original wildlife-related stories.

Photographs depicting fifty years of hunting along with dozens of trophy deer mounts are displayed in one of our Museums on the square.

Children’s activities include pumpkin-decorating, face-painting, rock-climbing wall, laser-gun shooting, clothesline art, and fossil digging.

Game-calling and story-telling finds participants of all ages and backgrounds comparing their skills at this rural art form.

Commercial vendors display items ranging from tractors, deer-plot seed and camouflage to quail eggs and venison jerky.

Wildlife Conservation seminars enhance our understanding of game management techniques, area ecology, and call attention to the beauty and abundance of wildlife in Wilkinson County.

Admission: $5 per person, children under 5 are free.
