Lorenzo Dow—Crazy Missionary or Religious Visionary?

Feb/21/2013 - Feb/21/2013
Location: Historic Jefferson College

Stanley Nelson, publisher of the Concordia Sentinel, will present a lecture on one of Natchez’ most eccentric personalities—the missionary preacher Lorenzo Dow.

The extremely eccentric early American Methodist preacher, Lorenzo Dow, and his equally odd wife, Peggy Dow, were well known in the Natchez area during the early 1800s. Although a particularly gifted and inspiring orator, he was not always welcome in the communities he ministered to, as he rarely bathed, never cut his beard or hair, and wore his clothes until they were only ragged scraps of cloth.

This lunchtime lecture is free of charge, and begins at 12:00.
