General John Bell Hood: What Happened to Him?

This Lunchtime Lecture will be presented by historian Clark Burkett at noon on Saturday, August 17th at Historic Jefferson College.

Free and open to all

Hood was a Confederate general, who was known for his bravery and aggressive tactics during the Civil War. He excelled as a brigade and division commander, but the higher up he went, the worse he got. As he was promoted to head larger commands, his defeats grew more and more extreme, until he was finally relieved of his command in 1864. How did a man that was so good, so early in his career diminish in ability and decisiveness so quickly?

Historic Jefferson College is located 4 miles northeast of Natchez, off Highway 61, in Washington. It is a state historic site, administered by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.
