Film Screening of First Encounter

Jan/14/2016 - Jan/14/2016
Location: Grand Village of the Natchez Indians

Please join us on January 14 at 6 p.m. at the Grand Village auditorium when Brad Prewitt will screen the documentary film First Encounter. "The documentary portrays the actions taken by the Chickasaw that proved to be the catalyst for the dwindling of Hernando de Soto’s mission for gold and riches in America during the late 1530s and early 40s," Prewitt said. "It was the first European contact for the Chickasaw, but perhaps the most important and set the standard by which the tribe remained for centuries, and still remains today: 'unconquered and unconquerable.'”

Brad Prewitt serves as founding executive director of the Chickasaw Inkana Foundation based in Tupelo. His interest in Mississippi’s Native American history and culture stems both from his mother’s teaching him Mississippi history in high school and his direct descent from famed Choctaw minko Mushulatubbee. Brad was appointed in 2015 by Chickasaw Nation governor Bill Anoatubby as executive officer of the Chickasaw Nation.

The event is free and we look forward to seeing you there!!
