Built in 1858 to be the Second Presbyterian Church, this house of worship was sold in 1866 to the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Zion Chapel AME's first minister was Hiram R. Revels, the first black man to serve in either house of Congress when he was chosen to serve the unexpired term of Jefferson Davis.
